It’s World Series time.
The Red Sox take on the Dodgers in a battle of baseball’s jewel franchises.
One person who knows what it feels like is Bob Boone, the seven-time Gold Glove winner and 1980 World Series champion with the Phillies.
Boone, now the assistant general manager with Washington, was in Fresno recently when the Grizzlies announced their affiliation with the Nationals.
Take 5
Take 5 spoke with him about what it’s like to play in the Fall Classic. He talked about:
— The pressure of playing in the World Series
— The heartbreak of the 1986 ALCS, where Boone’s Angels lost a 3-1 series lead, including Game 5 thanks to an epic home run by Dave Henderson.
— Boone talks about that Henderson at-bat and an interesting conversation he had afterward with manager Gene Mauch.
— Boone talks about the best pitcher he ever caught, Hall of Fame southpaw Steve Carlton.
— Boone, who once held the record for games caught, talks about who he thinks is the best defensive catcher today.
