Thousands, mostly students, lined the streets of downtown Fresno to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. After hearing a program of speakers including Fresno city councilman Oliver Baines and state assemblyman Joaquin Arambula, the throng marched down P Street toward the Convention Center.
Baines talked about the divisive rhetoric of the recent presidential campaign. He mentioned how at first King was reluctant, but followed his conscience.
Arambula, a doctor when he is not making laws in Sacramento, talked about the need for health care.
Other speakers included congressman Jim Costa and Reza Nekumanesh, director at the Islamic Cultural Center of Fresno.
Only one Donald Trump sign was spotted among the crowd: a “Dump Trump” banner that was at the back of the parade line. A few held “No War” signs. Many held signs honoring King.
