A 21-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after authorities said she crashed a pickup truck into a Visalia home late Monday night, fled the scene and later resisted officers.

Officers with the Visalia Police Department responded just before 11:30 p.m. to the 1300 block of West Mary Court after receiving reports of a vehicle that had crashed into a residence.

When officers arrived, they found an unoccupied white Ford F-150 lodged in the living room of the home, police said.

Investigators said the driver, identified as Evette Hopson, ran from the scene after the collision. A resident of the home chased Hopson and attempted to detain her several blocks away. During the encounter, Hopson struck the resident, causing visible injuries, according to police.

Officers located Hopson nearby. Police said she was combative and resisted officers before being taken into custody.

No one inside the residence was injured in the crash, police said.

Authorities determined Hopson had been driving under the influence of alcohol and was over the legal blood alcohol limit, according to police.

Hopson was transported for jail clearance before being booked on suspicion of driving under the influence, driving with a blood alcohol content over 0.08%, resisting and obstructing officers, resisting an executive officer, hit-and-run property damage, and battery.
