Middle East affairs expert Trita Parsi says even though President Donald Trump has a deal favorable to both the U.S. and Iran, his reliance on Israeli advice will “snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.”

In the author’s Substack, Parsi says the current ceasefire deal gives both relief to the global oil supply by opening up the Strait of Hormuz and gives Iran perceived power by allowing the country to collect fees for passing ships.

By listening to the advice of Israel and the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, Trump’s insistence on using his blockade strategy could cost him that deal as the president hopes for a “silver bullet,” Parsi says.

Despite Trump saying that the blockade would leave Iran with maxed out oil storage capacity, it has not yet done so.
