The Fresno Police Department, in collaboration with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Crisis Response Teams, caught a murder suspect Wednesday, nearly a nearly a month after a fatal shooting in central Fresno, the department announced.
Damien Murphy, the accused, was arrested in the 4800 block of North Cedar Avenue on suspicion of killing William Carney.
On Oct. 16 police officers responded to a shooting report in the 400 block of North Effie Street. Upon arrival, they discovered 39-year-old William Carney critically injured in a gas station parking lot.
Although he received immediate medical attention and surgery at Community Regional Medical Center, Carney’s injuries were fatal. Investigations led detectives to identify Damien Murphy, 29, as the alleged shooter. Police said the shooting occurred as a result of a dispute between Carney and Murphy’s family.
