A call by the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office last week for residents to be on the lookout for homicide suspect Miguel Luis Gutierrez Jr. has paid off.
On Sunday, detectives received a tip that Gutierrez was in the small Stanislaus County town of Ceres, sheriff’s spokesman Tony Botti said in a news release on Tuesday evening.
Detectives then coordinated with the Ceres Police Department, whose officers utilized an arrest warrant they had on file and arrested him outside a motel.
Gutierrez subsequently was transported to Fresno and charged with murder by the Fresno County District Attorney’s office.
On Aug. 1, shortly after 10:30 a.m., a homeowner on South Blythe Avenue between Easton and Raisin City found a dead man in the garage.
The victim was later identified as Ismael Orlando Herrera Jr., 39, who was homeless and often seen near Caruthers and Riverdale. Detectives determined that Gutierrez, 41, was
responsible for his death.
