The Hanford Police Department busted an illegal street racing operation in the Hanford Mall parking lot Sunday night, according to a news release.
Hanford Mall management was contacted and said they did not want the activity taking place at the mall due to other similar type events causing damage to mall property, trash left behind, and the dangers associated with racing, officials said.
Hanford police, the California Highway Patrol, Kings County Major Crimes Task Force, and Kings County Air Support Unit conducted enforcement focusing its efforts on vehicles engaged in reckless driving, street racing, sideshows, exhibition of speed, and vehicles equipped with modifications violating state smog requirements, according to the release.
The enforcement resulted in 33 traffic citations for various moving and equipment violations. Officials also said two people received misdemeanor citations for driving with suspended drivers licenses and their vehicles were impounded for up to 30 days.
