It’s the most wonderful time of the year.

The acclaimed Youth Orchestras of Fresno will perform its holiday concert Sunday (Dec. 10) at Paul Shaghoian Concert Hall on the campus of Clovis North High School. Showtime is 4 p.m.

The selections include Gounod’s “Faust Ballet Music” and a pair of pieces from Tchaikovsky: “Sleeping Beauty Suite” and “Nutcracker Suite.”

The Youth Orchestra is composed of three groups arranged by age and skill level. The most advanced group is the Youth Philharmonic Orchestra.

GV Wire recently attended a rehearsal of the group, led by renowned conductor and Fresno State music professor Thomas Loewenheim. His wide smile when speaking with us is indicative of the pride and confidence he has in the students’ performance.

The musicians come from schools throughout the Valley. The goal of the Youth Orchestra is to bring children from diverse backgrounds together. Costs are no obstacle to performing for musicians with talent, dedication and desire.

The concert is free of charge. However, donations will gladly be accepted.
