In a recent survey, 59% of Americans said “they consider this to be the lowest point in our nation’s history that we can remember,” according to Bloomberg.

The reason behind such strong feelings? The American Psychological Association attributes them to the increasingly high levels of stress the average American faces on a daily basis. According to their poll, 63% of Americans are stressed about America’s future, 62% are stressed about money, and 61% are concerned about work.

Stress levels seem to have a political component, as well. Democrats reported feeling stressed at a 73% rate, while 59% of independents and 56% of Republicans said they are experiencing stress.

While the country’s polarized political environment appears to be a factor, individual issues like health care, the economy, trust in government, and crime ranked high on the list of stressors, also.
