A Fresno radio host is returning to the air.

Christopher Gabriel, last heard on Power Talk 96.7, will debut a new afternoon show on 940 ESPN, starting Aug. 28. The show will air 3-6 p.m. with an extra Friday morning show as well.

The versatile host has been “on the beach” as the industry parlance goes since January 2016 when he was unceremoniously let go after one year on the job. At Power Talk, Gabriel focused on politics. This time, as his new station’s moniker would indicate, he will focus on sports.

In the interim, Gabriel has guest-hosted radio shows for KMJ in Fresno, KFMB in San Diego and WCCO in Minneapolis.

Gabriel plans to talk about Fresno State football and other local sports teams.

“There will be some humor. There will be regular segments and some new things, too,” Gabriel told GV Wire.

“It feels great to be back in radio. I’ve been real fortunate since Power Talk to guest host in different places. I knew sooner or later, the program would land somewhere. I think everything happens for a reason. I’ve always wanted to host a sports show.”

Gabriel grew up in Chicago as a sports fan. At one point, he was recruited for his basketball abilities. While never suiting up in the college ranks, Gabriel wound up as a student at USC.

But sports won’t be the sole focus. “We will include a movie preview, because last time I checked, sports fans like movies, too,” he said.

“This guy is the real deal — and will entertain the heck out of listeners from Stockton to Bakersfield on 50,000 watt 940 ESPN!” said John Ostlund, owner of One Putt Broadcasting, parent company of 940 ESPN.

Before moving to Fresno, Gabriel hosted radio talk shows in Fargo, N.D., and Minneapolis.
