The Miss California pageant contestants are preparing for their big day. They are singing…they are tumbling…and they performing dramatic monologues ahead of Saturday’s grand finale.

It has been a busy week for the women and girls of the Miss California and Outstanding Teen competitions. They’ve attended a ball game…they’ve been honored at City Hall…they’ve met with their fans.

Friday, a new Outstanding Teen will be crowned. Haley Ball is an incoming senior at Redwood High School in Visalia and Miss Tulare County. Attending a prior pageant has inspired her to dream big.

“I saw the girls on stage. I could feel their passion for what they were doing. I wanted to be that next one on that stage. I wanted to be the one winning that crown,” Haley said.

She then began competing herself. “Now, I want to win Miss California and eventually win Miss America.”

Miss Fresno County, Kara Duran, an incoming senior at Dinuba High School, says she loves to perform. “Definitely just feeling and hearing the crowd and hearing that you are entertaining them. It’s not for you, it’s for them. It’s for the judges, to entertain them and make them have a wonderful night,” Kara gushes.

But, does she still get butterflies?

“Definitely. I always feel the need to shake it off. But, right when I step on stage and get into my zone, I immediately feel a rush of energy and feel like I can accomplish anything,” Kara says.

The new Miss California will be crowned Saturday. It all takes place at the Saroyan Theatre in downtown Fresno.
